ජනගහනය වැඩි වීමට උපත් වැඩි වීම, මරණ අඩු වීම රට තුළ හා රටෙන් පිටතට ජනගහනය සංක්‍රමණය වීම පෙන්වා දිය හැකිය.ලෝක ජනගහනයේ වර්ධන පිළිබඳ පරීක්ෂාවෙන් කටයුතු කිරීම වෙනුවෙන් මෙවැනි දිනයක් වෙන් කිරීමෙන් අපේක්ෂා කරයි.
ඒ අනුව 1989 පටන් අඛණ්ඩව සෑම වසරකම ජනගහනය පිළිබඳව තෝරාගත් තේමාවක් ඔස්සේ වැඩි වශයෙන් අවධානය යොමු කිරීමටත්, සැමරුම් පැවැත්වීමටත් ක්‍රියා කර ඇත.
වයස අවුරුදු 13 සිට 19 දක්වා වයසේ පසුවන ගැහැනු දරුවන්ගේ ආරක්ෂාව සැලසීම, අයිතීන් සුරැකීම, ප්‍රජනන සෞඛ්‍ය දැනුම වැඩිදියුණු කිරීම (‘investing in teenage girls’)2016 මෙවර ජනගහන දින සැමරුමේ තේමාව ලෙස දක්වා තිබේ.
එක්සත් ජාතීන්ගේ සංවිධානය මෙවන් තේමාවක් ප්‍රකාශයට පත් කරමින් ලොව සෑම රටකම නායකයින්ගේ, සිවිල් සංවිධාන ක්‍රියාකාරිකයින්ගේ හා සමස්ත ප්‍රජාවගේ අවධානය මේ වයසේ පසුවන ගැහැනු දරුවන් වෙතම යොමු කිරීම ඉතා වැදගත් බවද සතරසිංහ මහතා කීය.
1996 සිට 2015 දක්වා ලෝක ජනගහන දින සැමරුම් තේමාවන් පහතින් දක්වා ඇත.
